“Sport is the greatest tool we have in today’s society to assist in the development of positive character traits and life values among children.” says Mr. Vivik Ragoonanan, one of the Directors of the Gift for Life Foundation (GFLF). “No other place affords them the opportunity to soak up as many quality values as sports participation provides.”

On Sunday 23rd, August, 2015, GFLF provided children among twenty one (21) different Children’s Homes with the opportunities, inspiration, and support to participate in sporting activities. They created a safe, secure and positive environment for every child who attended the Annual GFLF Sports & Family Day at the Pierre Road Recreational Ground, Charlieville.

Members of GFLF designed this day where the focus was on mixed aged teams/races, so children can participate regardless of age or gender. The activities were multi-skill based, but the most important was the focus on fun through friendly competition. “Every child can achieve on this day! Being involved in athletic experiences isn’t just about a child winning or losing,” says one of the GFLF youth arm members. “It’s about more important things like effort, skill-building and team participation among children from different children’s home where children learn from their successes and failures.”

Whilst every home participated and had a great time, the winners were:

1st – Margaret Kistow Children’s Home, Malabar (Won challenge trophy in 3 consecutive years).

2nd – Raffa Girls’, Malabar

3rd – Swaha Children’s Home, Penal
