On Sunday 2nd July, 2023, Dr. Derek Ramcharitar, Dental Surgeon & Oral Implantologist of Gentle Dentistry and Implant Centre, and his team; along with volunteer Dentists, Dr. Surendra Rampersad, Pediatric Specialist and Dr. Nurse, donated their time and resources to the children from the Ezekiel Children’s Home.
Making a difference with brighter smiles was the main objective of this Dental Outreach Program. The children were very nervous, especially those who were visiting a dentist for the first time. The Gentle Dentistry team made all feel welcome. The children were warmly greeted with bright smiles and made to feel comfortable in the reception area brightly decorated with beautiful balloon arrangements which the children were eager to take home at the end of the day.
They were each given a gift bag full of dental supplies such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, educational material, treats, and stickers which some excitedly stuck on their clothes. While they waited to see the dentist, they were entertained by children’s educational television programs.
Gentle Dentistry team members accompanied each child to meet with his/her dentist of the day. Lots of hugs and comforting words were shared. The children were a very brave bunch. They were provided with comprehensive dental care inclusive of x-rays, extractions, fillings, whitening, cleaning, and fluoride treatments. Follow up appointments were also scheduled.
There was laughter, singing, dancing and games while they waited. After all dental treatments were completed there was face painting with special requests for characters such as Batman and Hello Kitty, pretty flowers, sparkly stars, and bright colored rainbows. All with lots of glitter! Before they munched on sandwiches and other delicious goodies there was a special craft session where they printed their painted hands on a specially designed poster to commemorate the day.
