On Tuesday 31st July 2018, Gift For Life Foundation hosted a small water play event at Debe Fun Splash. Children from several children homes were taken to the water park so that they could have enjoyed both the calming or invigorating effect of water. The vigorous splashing and kicking and running around in the water was an excellent outlet for pent up energy. It was a great way for the children to have fun and let off steam! For some children especially from Christ Child Convalescent Home, the children were quietly absorbed and it seemed as though they were losing themselves in the physical repetition of gentle water flowing on them. This activity must have allowed them to unwind, order their thoughts and relax.
Children were able to develop social skills through water play. Such water play gave many opportunities for the children to develop crucial social skills since they were working with one another or a whole group. It was a great way for children to learn to share and take turns as they shared the physical space in the water.
Debe Funsplash/ water park offered many opportunities for children to problem solve, question, explore and experiment. Children were actually investigating water science. They were building their understanding of the properties of water and discovering that water flowed downhill and would find a horizontal level especially in the water slide games.
Our upcoming events for the children will be their Sports & Family Day on Sunday 19th August, 2018 @ Pierre Road, Charlieville.
