PURPOSE:
The exercise of planting of fruit trees or flower plants is purely to sensitize children of the need to reduce global warming and to combat climatic changes through the purification of the air.
The exercise is also educational in nature since children also learn that a tree or plant comprising of leaves is able to photosynthesize and in so doing, the tree or plant provides an essential of life for all living things on our planet Earth – oxygen. In the process of photosynthesizing, the tree or plant has the power of removing harmful gases like Carbon Dioxide from the air; the air we breathe is therefore healthier.
Planting a tree or flower plant eases the minds of children during stressful times, therefore, the exercise assists in maintaining a positive mental health.
NEXT STEP:
The children learn responsibility through taking care of the trees/ plants. From time to time, they will be presenting to us the following:
- Measurement values (cm, inches) of the stem or the trunk. The children are learning a topic on MEASUREMENT at school.
- Projects or written narratives about the tree/ plant that they are in charge of.
- Written narratives of the shape, size, length of the leaves and how these can impact on the lives of the trees/ plants.
- Drawing of the trees/ plants especially the leaves since they are learning drawing in the Science Classroom.
