Gift for Life Foundation (GFLF) hosted it Annual Sports & Family Day on Sunday 27th August, 2023 at the Pierre Road Recreational Grounds, Charlieville with eighteen (18) Children’s Homes. One of the main objectives for the day was not just building character, but for children of different age groups to display competence and confidence while showcasing their sporting prowess.
The spirit of friendly competition came alive where over four hundred (400) children participated in a wide range of events. GFLF encouraged the participation in different sporting activities which would have impacted positively on children’s self-esteem. Children who participated were praised and cheered from GFLF members, caregivers, volunteers and other adults and children. They were encouraged to trust in their own abilities and to push themselves which resulted in positive feelings of self-worth.
GFLF is very proud to add that its Annual Sports Day was not just a fun day for the children, but was a learning experience for every child. Ms. Shaks, an active member of GFLF added that, “the teamwork among the different children’s homes for different competitive events gave children immense experiences. Dealing with adversity was another area where children managed well. Besides creating an opportunity for the children to develop their creativity, teamwork and inter-personal skills, our sporting activities that were selected also helped to cultivate peer interaction and encouraged family bonding. We were happy to see the positive collaboration among children from the various Children’s Homes.”
It was astounding to witness the children being competitive and determined where they showed great encouragement and sportsmanship towards each other throughout the events. Congratulations to:
1st Place winner – St. Mary’s Children’s Home, Tacarigua. This home also won the Sports Day Challenge Trophy for the second consecutive year.
2nd Place winner – Ezekiel Home for Abandoned Children – Preysal
3rd Place Winner – Margaret Kistow Children’s Home, Malabar
Hearty congratulations to all the children from all the various Children’s Homes for participating and being a winner.
